Questions people ask
Do consultants charge tax to overseas clients?
Usually not. In most VAT and GST systems, including the UK, the EU, Australia and India, business consulting for a client abroad is outside the scope of local tax or zero-rated, and EU business clients account for VAT themselves under reverse charge. Check the rule for your own country in our country guides.
Should I invoice a retainer in advance?
Yes. Retainers are normally invoiced at the start of each period so the time is paid for before it is used.
