How builders and tradespeople usually bill
Agree stage payments up front (deposit, first fix, second fix, completion) and invoice materials separately from labour.

- Your client's name and address, and their PO or project reference
- A unique invoice number, for example INV-OCT-001

Tips to get paid faster
- Use an estimate your customer accepts online, with a deposit.
- Keep materials and labour on separate lines.
- Check your country's construction rules: for example CIS and the VAT domestic reverse charge in the UK, or withholding and reverse-charge rules elsewhere.
Questions people ask
Do builders need to show tax on invoices?
Only if registered for VAT, GST or sales tax. Some countries, including the UK and Germany, apply a domestic reverse charge to sub-contracted construction work between registered businesses, which changes what goes on the invoice.
Should I ask for a deposit before starting?
Yes. A deposit covers early materials and confirms the booking. State it on your estimate.
